ROBERT ORR (oboe)

Robert Orr is associate principal oboe with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He commenced his studies at the Wellington Polytechnic Conservatorium of Music, during which time his orchestral experience included being principal oboe of both the Wellington Sinfonia and National Youth Orchestra for several years in suc-cession. In 1992 he won first-equal prize in the National Concerto Competition and was later a recipient of both an Alex Lindsay Award and an Arts Council, Jack McGill Scholarship. Robert subsequently went to the Royal Academy of Music in London and gained postgraduate diplomas in both performance and teaching. During that time he also played as an extra with the London Philharmonic, The Philharmonia and the City of London Sinfonia.
